MEETING MINUTES

• Members Present: Susan Hofstetter, Carol Egan, Anne Seeger, Laura Rink, Ann Reed, Jean Prochaska, Carol Egan

• The committee would appreciate an additional form that is used for evaluation by the committee rather than teachers form, that is similar to the AV form. In addition, we need to have an approval form for both basic and non-basic materials. We can look at the policy and forms at our next meeting.

• Request for consideration of Slum Doctor presentation materials: The committee discussed strengths and concerns about Slum Doctor while evaluation forms were completed. The average score for evaluation was 3.9. The committee approved the resource for 8th and above.

• Request for consideration of New Elementary FOSS Science Kits: Carol explained how the District initiated the FOSS kits and our relationship with science coaches and Western Washington University (NCOSP). She also explained where the District is currently and where we are going. Jean explained that we are in a three year cycle with professional development. The 08-09 purchase has been identified as Solids and Liquids for 1st grade, Balance and Motion for 2nd, Physics of Sound for 3rd, Magnetism and Electricity for 4th, and Mixture and Solutions for 5th grade. Jean explained the professional development for this purchase round. The teachers are ready for these kits are excited about receiving them. The committee approved the purchase of the kits.

• Laura reminded the committee that we have 2 year terms, and most of the current committee members terms will be expiring.
