Video. The Amazing Bone by William Steig. Produced by the Video Library of Scholastic Books.
A small group watched the video, The Amazing Bone , in response to a parent Request for Reconsideration of Instructional Materials. The book, The Amazing Bone , is part of the library collection in most elementary schools. The video contains this story and others by William Steig. The video is essentially a moving set of the still images from the book, with narration of the text. The video was awarded the Parents Choice award and a citation from the Coalition for Quality Children's Videos, in addition to the American Library Association Notable Video award. It was a Caldecott Honor Book in 1976.
The assembled members believe that the video is appropriate for viewing in elementary classrooms as part of a lesson plan, involving folk and fairy tales. The video is available for viewing by the other members of the IMC at 3:30 on the day of our next meeting or at a time arranged between the IMC member and Nancy Messmer (676.6525).
