1. Review R elate A bstinence P resentation for High Schools – from RELATE – Whatcom County Pregnancy Center
Tricia Huckaby, Whatcom County Pregnancy Center, brought the student materials for review and the changes made to the revised curriculum. Adrienne confirmed that oral sex is not addressed in the current curriculum.
Ann Buswell gave feedback from middle school health teachers on the curriculum. The introduction seemed more high school focused. Summary of feedback was the need to center the discussion on healthy relationships in the Marriage Game, rather that of marriage, and a several analogies and games seem questionable. We need to think about the balance of the message of the curriculum. Schools are free to make the choice whether the presentation will be offered at 7 th and/or 8 th grade. Changes include to remove “oral sex” references and those previously discussed.
Committee voted to approve the presentation with the agreed changes.
