MEETING MINUTES

• Carol called to order at 4:05
• Welcome-Introductions of new members
• Present:  Carol Egan, John Mangan, Anne Seeger, Susan Hofstetter, Yvonne Sorter, Laura Rink, Dave Adams, Ann Reed

• Squalicum High School request for consideration of supplemental text titled:  An Inconvenient Truth, The Planetary Emergency of Global Warming and What We Can Do About It, by Al Gore.

  Carol Egan shared the teacher evaluations of the text, which were overly favorable in all categories.  Teachers used all the evaluation forms.  Laura added that she agreed with the teachers’ forms.  Anne suggested that the content was more based on political issues than scientific research.  How will the text be presented?

The committee decided to give the members another month to review the text and ask teachers to attend the next meeting.  Questions for the teachers will be submitted to Carol within 10 days to help the teachers prepare for the presentation to the committee for the November 21st meeting.

• Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Panel Presentation

  This was a previously approved 2-day presentation.  The new request is for an additional day in a panel format with local victims.  Discussion centered on whether or not teachers would find day 3 valuable.    Decision is to have the presenting group present day three to a group of teachers to see if there is interest for inclusion with the 2-day presentation.
