MEETING MINUTES

Members Present: Linda Chapman, Kristin O’Malley, Susan Hofstetter, Ann Seegar, Byron Gerard, Carol Egan, Ann Reed

• Scott Smartt, Bellingham High School request for consideration of basic instructional textbook Precalculus by Paul A. Foerster/Key Curriculum Press
Carol introduced new process that the PreCalculus Teacher committee is initiating. Research and enhancements on national, state, and international standards have been completed and compiled in a report that has been reviewed by academia and community partners. With additional revisions, the report will be presented to the School Board. The committee approved the text for adoption.

• Digital software approval process: Ann presented the draft proposal for approval of digital resources and how the IMC will be involved in the process. The committee felt that the process was clear and understood the role of how the IMC would be engaged in the evaluation.

• Paige Lamb, Americorps Volunteer request for consideration of Slum Doctor presentation materials
Tim Costello gave background to the history of the development of the Americorps projects around AIDS in Kenya, Africa and the Bellingham connection.
The Slum Doctor curriculum is engaging and is designed to last about two class periods with a supporting a DVD and PowerPoint. The content focuses on work in Africa, then brings the content to the local level. Currently the content is used in the high school level. Paige and Tim are seeking permission to introduce the curriculum at the Middle School level. The content is aligned with the EALRs.
The committee viewed the DVD and reviewed the PowerPoint presentation. Paige then explained the bean activity and the follow-up discussions in the curriculum. The committee felt that the content is appropriate at 8th grade.
