MEETING MINUTES

Welcome

Members Present:  Dave Adams, Susan Hofstetter, Linda Chapman, John Mangan, Laura Rink, Anne Seeger, Ann Reed

Guests:  Squalicum HS staff members:  Heather Hiatt, 9th grade, and Roberta Vollendorff, SpEd

1.  Squalicum High School request for consideration of supplemental text titled An Inconvenient Truth, The Planetary Emergency of Global Warming and What We Can Do About It, by Al Gore.

Squalicum High School Teachers:  Roberta and Heather answered questions and discussed occurred about the concerns of An Inconvenient Truth.  The book will be used as a supplemental text in 9th grade core classes, integrated in several content areas. Concern was around the political agenda of the book, yet the teachers are looking at the content as a social, scientific, and political issue that the students need to consider.  The focus is around awareness of a problem.

Committee had further discussion after the presentation.

Evaluation Results:  3.5 approval rating, 50% recommendation

The committee filled the evaluation form on the Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Panel Presentation as no further discussion was deemed necessary.

Evaluation Results:  1.9 approval rating, 0% recommendation
