Measures
of Academic Progress (MAP)- Grades 3, 4, 5, and NYAS 8th Grade students
April and May Newsletters
All 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students along with NYAS 8th grade students will be participating in the Measures
of Academic Progress (MAP) between April 28th and May 30th, 2008. MAP is a computer-generated mathematics
assessment that takes students about an hour to complete. April/May will be the first time that all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will be assessed on MAP.
The MAP assessment is unique because the software adapts to an
appropriate level for your child's current understanding. This unique level continues from one testing season to the next. As a result, each
student has the same opportunity to maintain a positive
attitude toward testing.
The
MAP assessment provides one "snapshot" of student performance. Used
in conjunction with classroom assessments, results from these tests
help students, teachers and parents better understand each student's
progress toward meeting district standards for achievement. In addition,
results help teachers and administrators identify strengths and
areas for future improvement in our instructional programs. Within
72 hours after testing, teachers can access individual student reports
that give detailed information about each student's math skills.
The goal for the future is to have all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students assessed in math (using MAP) three times per year - fall, winter, and spring. 8th grade students whom are not yet at standard (NYAS) will take the MAP on math to demonstrate their progress toward standard or to indicate that they have met the standard in math.
