The Accounting Department performs the following functions in support of District operations:

  • Records district financial transactions in accordance with Federal, State, and District regulations
  • Oversees receipt and deposit of cash throughout the District
  • Manages investment transactions in conjunction with the Whatcom County Treasurer’s Office
  • Provides fiscal reporting and other financial information to District, the Public, and State and Federal Agencies
  • Coordinates development of the District’s budget & monitors compliance to budget
  • Provides grant accounting and reporting
  • Issues payments to suppliers for goods and services
  • Issues payments to employees for reimbursement of travel and expense reimbursements
  • Prepares billings for building rentals, reimbursements, grants, etc.
  • Acts as District liaison to the Washington State Auditor’s Office
  • Establishes and monitors internal controls to effectively maintain the integrity of financial records, safeguard District assets, and comply with State & Federal regulations
